Sanjay Shankar, MD, is a board-certified interventional cardiologist with Heart One Associates serving patients at their offices in Phoenix, Peoria, and Buckeye, Arizona. He specializes in coronary artery catheterizations, complex cardiac procedures, and heart failure management. Dr. Shankar also focuses on the treatment and prevention of heart disease with a special interest in medical oncology.

Dr. Shankar completed his medical residency and fellowship training in cardiology and interventional cardiology from the University of Pittsburgh (UPMC). Dr. Shankar also has a master’s degree in medical management from Carnegie Mellon University. He is board certified in general cardiology, interventional cardiology, and nuclear cardiology.

Dr. Shankar had been practicing in the valley for the last two years and, prior to that, was practicing in Ohio. He has served in many administrative roles, including the Chairman of Medicine at Trinity Health System in Ohio. During his career and training, Dr. Shankar has worked with pioneers and national leaders in the field of cardiovascular disease at the Ohio State University, Duke University, and UPMC.

Over the years, his work has been published in many top peer-reviewed cardiology journals. He has also contributed book chapters that have been published in medical books. Research work done by Dr. Shankar and other co-contributors in understanding the mechanisms behind heart attacks has resulted in a US Patent that is currently held by Duke University.

Dr. Shankar lives in the Glendale area with his wife and three children. Dr. Shankar enjoys traveling, landscape photography, and tennis.
